“I have been coming to the square for a long time now. As a kid, I used to come to watch the tourists. I was fascinated by the way they talked, the way the ate walking, and the way they laughed. I remember, when I was twenty or so an american girl would come and sit next to me. She would try to talk to me but I didn’t understand what she was saying and neither did she. But every evening she would come anyways. We just smiled at each other and made gestures. Sometimes she would bring me sandwiches and we would eat together. One day, she was already here before me. She was trying to explain something but I didn’t understand. Then she showed me her plane tickets. Then, I understood that she was leaving. She came and gave me a hug and said ‘Friend’ and I said ‘Yes, friend.”
