“I am a single mother of two. And it has not been easy. After he left, he stopped all financial support. I single-handedly bore all the responsibilities to raise them. I made sure my children got the opportunities they deserved. I left school early in life. You know, the focus of families in my community is to get their growing daughters married and to send them off. I do not want the same fate for my children, especially my daughter. I want them to be able to make decisions for themselves. And for them to be able to do that, I made sure they were able to chose what they wanted to study. And in doing so, I have some debt. My daughter wants to pursue nursing as her career. And I tell her, “Do whatever you want to do, I will support you. I will get you the money.” (Dhana Gurung, Mugling, Chitwan)
