Who Do I Tell

“#WhoDoITell?” – Migration and the Pandemic is a collection of accounts from Nepali communities that have been affected by return migration because of COVID-19. It was developed as part of the International Organization for Migration’s EU-funded (DG-INTPA) “Mainstreaming Migration into International Cooperation and Development (MMICD)”. The stories come from men and women, migrants and non-migrants, whose already-fragile lives and livelihoods have been turned upside-down. They document life before COVID when labour migration was a key resilience and empowerment strategy for migrants and communities in Nepal. They explain how things have changed now, and what this means for themselves and their families. Through these personal and moving accounts, “Who do we tell?” highlights the importance of including migrants and their communities in COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. It also demonstrates the critical role of migration for resilient and prosperous communities, and the economy more widely. Migrant workers have a key role in sustainable development outcomes - both overseas and at home. They must be empowered as agents in recovery. As we re-build post-pandemic migration governance systems, we must ensure safe, orderly and regular migration which leaves no one behind.
