“Recently he had to undergo an operation. After he received a vaccination, his leg began to swell and he would constantly cry. At first we thought it was a normal infection. Later we found out that it was severe and the nurses at the chemist had given him a higher dose of the vaccine. The doctor said that he would need an operation or he might lose his leg. It was then that I realised what it is to become a parent. I could not sleep all night. Even at this tiny age he showed a lot of courage. After a while he stopped crying. It felt like he had learnt to bear the pain. The night before the operation I put him to sleep besides me. And I just kept on watching him as he slept. I could not imagine the kind of pain he was dealing with. The next morning, I took him to the hospital. As the doctor took him away to the operation theatre, I looked up at the ceiling and as I prayed the faces of my mother and father flashed in front of my eyes.” – (Nabin Basnet, Jhyaku 7, Dolakha)‪#‎StriveStruggleThrive‬
