“For generations our ancestors have been making tools for farming. And I continue to do the same. For every tool, depending on the size, I receive 4 kilos of grains or flour. Some give flour, some potatoes, some rice, some maize, some millet but no money. I only receive money one out of ten times. And I am the only person who does this in the area. If I were not here, then it would be difficult for the villagers to walk all the way to another village for tools. So I am thinking, that is my way of serving the community. But I don’t know what the villagers feel. I hope they like my work even though I am told, I belong to a lower caste. Caste never fed anyone, hard work did.” (Damber Bahadur Bika Gajmer, Hatiya, Sankhuwasabha)
