“My husband ran the fruit shop from when he was very young. After I got married, I started assisting him here. At first, I really didn’t know the pricing and how to deal with customers when there was a rush. But my husband taught me and I picked up things quickly. Now, while he fetches the fruits from Kalimati, I stay at the shop for customers. He sometimes tells me that I have become a better salesperson than he used to be. And sometimes with the extra savings he buys me a Kurta*.”

*Kurta is a garment esp. for women.
