“When I was a small boy, there were no bridges. Many people lost their lives, trying to cross the river. We would tie tree branches and vines together to make a rough bridge. And every day there would be news that this or that person from so and so village fell off the bridge and was never found. I lost many friends to the river. All good and hardworking people. And the villagers would say, ‘Oh, he died because his time had come, he died because it was his destiny.’ And today, there are bridges and little children dance and laugh while crossing them and they don’t die and that got me thinking, ‘How come people don’t die crossing the bridges now? Have our destinies changed?’ And finally, I concluded that it was not destiny that took the lives of my friends, it was the lack of bridges. Everyone were fools.” (Bhairab Bahadur Rai, Gadi, Pathibhara 4, Sankhuwasabha) #StriveStruggleThrive
