Neeharika Shrestha Lalitpur
“I started playing the violin at the age of 9. Before the violin, I was playing the piano but I did not show much interest so I picked the violin in school. And then I grew my passion and interest. It also relieves my stress. Playing violin helps me when I am angry with someone or I get irritated. I don’t know how to play many songs but I just play what I know and I try to find out the notes of my favourite songs. I write my goal on a piece of paper and I play on the streets and people listen and they clap and they give me what they can. And then I find children my age who are needy and buy clothes, gloves and stationary for them. In total, I have already collected about 25000. In the future, I also want to buy educational items and food items. I want other kids to be passionate and help others. I would like to see them make this world a better place.”

That morning Neeharika played violin in Mangal Bazar and was able to collect NPR 3750. She handed over the money to me and asked me to give it to someone her age. I met Bhawana Shahi and her parents in Pithuwada, Dailekh. Her parents ran a small rest stop. I was also able to connect Niharika and her parents to Bhawana and her parents. They were happy to speak to each other.
