“My grandfather was a well known and respected figure in the village. He would lead religious processions and over his lifetime had acquired good will and property in and around the village. But my father was different. He was into gambling and numerous other bad habits so whatever grandfather had earned went into paying his debts. The bank was about to take away our house but we all got together and somehow paid the money that my father had loaned. So many times I had to make a fresh start. I would work and save but everything I earned would go in rescuing my father. Today, I run a small homestay and I try and save as much as I can for my children. I don’t want them to go through what I have gone through. I don’t want them to share a similar story when they are my age. I want them to remember me as a good responsible father.” (Rajendra Shrestha, Nuwakot)
