“I am 21 years old and I have dreams. Recently, I returned from Turkey after three years, working as a housemaid. Those three years taught me things that no school can. It taught me the importance of home and family. Once I returned, I started taking care of our family-run hotel here in my village. Because I had the opportunity to go to school in Kathmandu, I also wanted the same for my brother and sister. They have been looking after the hotel in my absence. So it is my turn now. I want my brother and sister to pursue further studies and see the world outside of home, like I have. I think everyone should receive equal opportunity in a family. Today, I am happy working here. I have realised that there is money to be made in this place. I also run a small shop here which is doing good and guests like yourself who stay at the hotel also seem happy with the services. But eventually, I want to become a trekking guide. That is one of my dreams and I am working towards that. I am only 21 years old but I know of life. I know that if you set out to do something with all your heart, eventually it will happen.” (Pemba Doma Sherpa, Sekhathum, Taplejung)
