“When I started collecting hay, many people laughed at me. I told them that hay was going to bring in money but no one believed me. They scoffed, ‘What use does hay have? The kid has lost it’. But little did they know that I was farming mushrooms. When they saw the mushrooms grow in abundance they came to their senses. I was selling the mushroom in the city and making good profit. Seeing this, everyone started inviting me to their house, some for tea, some for lunch. I started teaching the community how it is done and today, many people in my village who were once unemployed, farm mushrooms and their livelihood is getting better. The feeling of being useful to the community, and seeing my neighbourhood change for good, is something I cannot describe in words.” (Mishra Swar, Gorkha.
