“I cannot reveal many things, for the past was different. Almost completely opposite to how I live life now. I will just say it was a risky life, away from social norms and responsibilities. But I find peace today with what I do. What I do is not very scientific but based on human faith, and the fear of death, we all have. And also back then I was a fighter in my village. But I have done good things too. Like this time when I took off my clothes and gave it to a poor boy who was shivering in the cold. I started shivering but he looked warm and I felt happy. I had Rs. 320 and I gave it to him and some fruits too. I met him again maybe after 7-8 years in a tempo and he looked good. I asked him, ‘How are you babu?’ And he looked surprised with a stranger asking him questions. He didn’t remember me. Oh and, I wanted to say, why is birth a celebration and death sorrow? I think it is strange. But yeah, life and death are amazing things.” (Ranjan Bhattarai, Sarlahi)
