“Situation was really bleak at home. Mother would brew alcohol to send us to school but eventually that also stopped. It was when I took the animals for pasture. A nice man in shirt and pant would come and talk to me sometimes. He sometimes would make me laugh. He would visit me to the highway a few times a week while I was with the animals. One day he came with two of his friends and the last thing I remember was seeing a white handkerchief. And I remember I was on a train with the same three men and they made me drink lemonade. And I remember it was really hot. It must have been during the afternoon I woke up again. But those men were not there. I saw a few other women towering over me and whispering with each other to say ‘She’s awake’. I somehow managed to tell them what those men had done to me, whatever I could remember. But a women came near me and said, “Those men have sold you here. Now you are my property, and you will do what I say. This is not your home.” Slowly, everything became bright and then the brightness turned to darkness. The next thing, I remember, I was in a room and a man entered.”
