Ghumthang VDC is located on the northern part of the Sindupalchowk District, Nepal. Ward 7 Shyamsadhu lies in the middle, amidst plateaus overlooking waterfalls. The village is only an hour walk uphill from the highway but still and like many villages across Nepal, access to education, healthcare and employment have always been scarce. With reported 115 death in the VDC and 22 deaths in Shyamsadhu alone the struggles have only multiplied for the families. Almost all the house have come down. Continuous aftershocks, unkind weather, unstoppable rains and many other threats have made the community even more vulnerable.
Today a truckload of building material has been dispatched to the village and starting tomorrow, with the technical expertise of Aashraya-आश्रय and coordination of Nepal Army, we are building 50 transitional shelters for the families directly affected by the earthquake. The villagers are hopeful of a better tomorrow and express their joy and gratitude.
My heartfelt thanks for sending in your generous support and donations to the Stories of Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund; it has worked as the foundation to new hopes and new reality. Further updates will be shared in the Stories of Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund.
