“Let me tell you a story, a story of two men. A very mean man lived on the top floor of the nine story building. He never thought about others but only hoarded money. He always seemed angry and unhappy. Then, there was another man who was very thin and very giving. He lived near the nine story building, the shadow of which never cast his humble hut. He always thought of others selflessly, but never had enough. Then one day, nature got angry and the building fell, leveling it to the earth. In seconds, the mean man lost everything, all his belonging and all his possessions. Lost and helpless he went to seek refuge in the hut with the thin man. The thin man whose hut still stood, welcomed him and comforted him. After a few days of seeing the selfless service of this thin man the hoarder asked, ‘Why are you doing this to me? Why are you helping me, when in the past, all I have done to you is be cruel?’ The thin man, smiled and replied, ‘Because, once I was just like you, always seeking joy in the material. One day nature got angry and I lost everything just like you have. And back then, in loneliness, I had wished that there was someone there to help me.'” (Min Bahadur Karki, Dumre, Ramechap)
